in two years, and that was just to get some business-casual slacks to
meet the Adelphia dress code. I have no idea when the last time I
bought jeans was; maybe back in Bangor, 1997 or 8.
So I made my first-ever Filene's Basement purchase. That was pretty
good. And now I have tripled the amount of non-holey pants I own. Hurrah.
Regarding the iBook: I did call Apple yetserday, and was told that the
part it has been waiting for since Tuesday is simply a new top bezel,
to give the power button a better fit. This surprised me, since people
at ORA were telling me about current LCD screen shortages, so I
expected that to be the scarce part. But a bezel is just a hunk of
molded plastic; what's the hold-up there?
They could give me no ETA on the part's arrival, and said that it
would have a 5-7 day turnaround after its receipt. Hoo
boy. They didn't have clue about the other two pending repairs on the
iBook, so I'm guessing that they haven't been seen to, and who knows
how long that would take.
If the repair status hasn't changed by Monday evening, on my baby's
one-week anniversary of mouldering in Apple's holding pen, I will ask
that the unit be reassembled and shipped back to me. I'd rather use it
in its work-aroundable state and pay for repairs out of pocket when I
can afford it -- which is to say, when I have money, time, and a local
backup machine. I have none of these now.
