Started applying for jobs today. Actually, I started yesterday, by telling people that I was launching myself back into the market (in a more deliberate fashion than posting about it to weblogs). A Circle J(o) person told me that his company's hiring XML-savvy folk, so I sent him my résumé today. I have some doubts about that one, since he introduced the idea to me with "We don't care about Perl, but how are you with VB?" Mumble. Well, can't hurt to see what they're up to.

Meanwhile, today I spent updating my résumé, then poking around Winter, Wyman & Company and BostonWorks. Noah landed his MIT job due to the efforts of WW&Co, and I will likely be contacting one of their consultants soon enough. I did find, through BostonWorks, an interesting position open at another joint, and applied for it. So, yes, the die is cast, and all that.

Of course, this begs the question: Doesn't this fly in the face of my earlier plans? How will I be able to write a book and a hold down a job at the same time?

I do not have an immediate answer to this. I know this much: staying broke and uninsured is simply not an option. I am prepared to take the necessary steps in order to make things work again.

Tomorrow I meet with Chuck. We'll see.

Confidential to Cthulhia: I have the purple ears.
