Guh. Up at 11 a.m. after booking all night, after which I booked for two more hours to tie up loose ends and am and into work at 2 p.m., glarmfing a large coffee and veggie caprese from Rossini's on the way. I was a fool for telling my boss that my late days are over, just because all the chapters are now accounted for, content-wise. Now comes cleaning up, formatting, spackling gaps, smoothing things over, and so on. (Yes, I now remember me announcing "Yay, the book is done!" about 50 times over a two-month period last winter, making people confused when they'd later see me working furiously on it.) So much more to be done. And then there'll be the tech review. My present self wishes I was freelancing again, though my near-future self will be glad for the full-time job once this is all over. Until then, I hope I don't look like too much a slacker here at harvard.

So: If you are a local friend, I will remain off your radar for a while yet. So it goes.

The fire alarm is going off, or the light-flashy part of it is, anyway. It's otherwise totally silent.
Peering down the hallway I see that this phenomenon is repeated across this floor. I also see that everyone is ignoring it.

"Oh, what is that? The fire alarm!!" says Carol. "Yes, but everyone is ignoring it," I say, from my chair. Whatever. Back to the music.

Hum. Now I hear approaching fire engines. Which just stopped outside. Huh? Should we leave?

This is the dumbest fire alarm ever.
