I think Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever is the first Rotten Tomatoes-posted film I've encountered to receive a 0 percent rotten-to-fresh ratio, out of 72 reviews. Neat.

Holy smokes, it's almost that time again. Ninety-five intents. Bejebiz. If ten percent of them are any good, I'll be a happy boy. Of course, I'm hoping lots of them are good... everyone got depressed over the overall crappy quality of last year's comp, despite the fact that there were more games than ever (until this year, that is). (OK, I'm looking at last year's list now. I played a lot of these games because I really wanted to be a judge, and I still failed to get around to it! I will try again this year. Anyway: I recall that I enjoyed "All Roads", "Heroes", "Fine Tuned" and "Elements". I can't understand why "Fine Tuned" got 19th place, actually. Well, OK: it had fatal bugs in it, apparently, but I failed to find any in the two hours the comp allots for playing each game before ranking it. I instead noted that it had a Nethack-like "My goodness, they thought of everything!" quality. I'll have to try it again sometime.) Good thing I don't have any PROJECTS DUE OR ANYTHING.

I just updated the favorite games page with a list of games that I want to like, but don't.

Picked up my own copy of the TR draft from David today. Jeepers, it's big. Before I can pounce on it, though, I've got to help out one of P&X's Japanese translators, who is struggling with Chapter 10, which is titled "XML Applications, Or: jmac's Brain Falls Apart". I can see that the word "monkey" appears about 32 times in his email to me, in various quotes from the chapter. Yep, that was the last chapter, all right. I... think I'll do the dishes first, and then make some tea, and then do that.

I have to mention that Erik has been great with this stage of P&X support; he's fielded all of the translators' questions very quickly, and he'd probably have fielded Tawa's Chapter 10 questions by now too if he had cc:ed the email to Erik, even though Erik didn't work on that chapter. I keep reminding me that he's so hyper about this even while he's up to his elbows in yet another book project of his own -- his third in a row!
