prog: (coffee)
I apologize for mopey posts. I fear that nobody likes those except for me, at least when I write them. Whee watch me bleed all over my own online journal, delightful fun. So, here, have a cute kitty post instead.

Actually, it's a dream-post. I dreamt this morning that I was visiting the Freaks, and was pasting up newspaper layouts (manually, with real paste, like the trolls in the basement of the Bangor Daily did as of 1996 and probably still do). The Freaks had another cat, named Schnauzer, and I had to write a little blurb about it... a cutline for a cute kitty filler-photo, maybe. So I peeked around the big pasting-easel set up in C&tH's living room and asked someone sitting by the fireplace (I think either [livejournal.com profile] jadelennox or a visiting [livejournal.com profile] colorwheel) how to spell the cat's name.

"Like the dog," she said, "or the nose."

"The nose?" I said. "Like... 'shnozz-er'"?

"Yeah. Because he has such a big nose! We could have named him 'Noser', but."

I laughed with delight.

Later, back in the waking world, I realize this is a questionable thing to name a cat. I mean, someone else has already thought of naming one's cat "Spot", and this seems like a stretch of an excuse to name your cat after something doggy, which is officially no longer original and clever. But still, it'd be kind of neat to say you had to give something a particular name because you dreamt it.

(Dream inputs:
* The Freaks have three cats. They are all cute (if two-thirds insane).
* I worked for two years as news editor for the Maine Campus, the student newspaper at my university, and as a result drew the layout for hundreds if not thousands of newspaper pages. Quite often I had to write cutlines for photos. ("Cutline" is news-lingo for a photograph caption.) However, we did our layout on Macs.
