Apr. 19th, 2004 02:52 pmFTR, it's a single-processor G5, about twice the MHz of my TiBook, and with the more recent Apple typeface (that one that isn't Apple Garamond) on the case, which as we all know is of supreme importance. They're pretty cheap (as such things go) for the .edu crowd right now. Getting a 17" flatscreen along with. Also paying $50 more to have an AirPort card tossed in, which seems a little strange for a desktop, but I actually really like the idea of not having Ethernet cables snaking all over my house. (Of course, if I go ahead with that ubiquitous-speaker project idea, all bets are off, eh?)
Beyond this being a generation beyond my laptop, I hope that its sessile nature will prove a better environment for my personal projects, compared to the constant work-v-play context-switching that my poor TiBook must endure.
Email told me that every single other member of the informatics group either called in sick, took a vacation day, or declared a work-from-home day today. Called boss, and he told me not to worry about it. So that's good; no sweating through today's combined Marathon and Sox/Yankees traffic boondoggle while I work from home.
