Jul. 9th, 2004 10:05 pmRicky visiting. I decided yeaterday I'd try something different, so picked up some ingredients and tonight cooked for a houseguest for the first time ever, breaking the cycle of pizza and Chinese that has thus far greeted any who have darkened my doorstep. Props to
magid,
leahleaf,
rikchik & MM and others who have nudged me into Slight Cooking Clue over the past year or two. Anyway, tonight was no-brain fajitas (wards off zobmies) (and zmobies), yum yum. FLAWLESS BEANERY
I've probably said this before, but: I hope to make a habit of this. Future houseguests can expect shocking amounts of pan-fried hospitality, and I maybe I'll invite people over for dinner occasionally, but I always say that and mumble mumble.
Ricky himself is doing swell. Really, you wouldn't recognize him by any complaints I may have made about him, which were always made after a Maine visit. He is a completely different man when separated from mom and dad. Which is to say: he does not act like Headless Conan O'Brian. This is a Feature. He still is perpetually confused and has his usual trouble with putting thoughts into words, but is otherwise easy to get along with. This of course sets me to wondering what will finally happen this year... mom and dad are trying to get him to move out and back up to Bangor, which he is in vague agreement with. He is well aware that they are the source of all his stress and craziness, but he still needs them nearby for suppport. Sigh.
(He also got really scared in a semi-bumpkinesque way when some macho kid on the T was alpha-maleing all over some other kid in an otherwise forgettable way, which is regrettable. We talked a little about this while I was chopping veggies and I think he's forgotten it now too.)
Much of the weekend probably to be spent at the MFA, his favorite place in the city, and uh, yeah, one can do worse. Should be tolerable-or-better.
