After letting it incubate for a week, I have a better idea of what one of my more complicated issues with Spider-Man 2 was. It's an issue I have only because Spider-Man -- and super-hero mythology in general -- was a major figure in my personal development, and I found the movie to play kind of loose with one rather important super-hero concept.

I can't call anyone a dink without people thinking that I wanted to say dick but used a childish substitution instead. This is actually not the case; I feel compelled to use the word without even thinking about it when I encounter a person who has an attitude that Ricky -- specifically Ricky -- wouldn't approve of. Now, he says it because in fact he actually can't bring himself to say swear words ever. But I have observed him apply the word to a very discrete range of inconsiderate behavior that irritates him, and so it's the first thing I think of now, when I see it.
