The RIAA is probably a force of evil. On the other hand, I've mistrusted The Register ever since they happily reported that Hilary Rosen was going to Iraq to rewrite their copyright laws. The story was based on one reporter's information, and so far I've seen nothing else at all to confirm that.
In this case, other news sources do confirm the story, though without the extreme editorial slant.
This is such a great year! We have law and order overseas in a democratic, secular Iraq and the many-fisted fury of the Law crushing the Evildoers here at home! The wages of sin is DEATH, Brianna, so you're going to HELL for ETERNITY! And be glad the Just and Fair RIAA is being merciful and hasn't been trying to press for national criminal penalties for this "stealing"--one 12-year-old in Florida was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. With a loss of each song "costing" $150,000 x 1000 songs, she's clearly up close to the Adelphia range of criminality! Guilty!
I bet she could kick "Dick" Cheney's ass, though, he of the five deferments.
Screw the police, let's just send a task force of RIAA lawyers into East Oakland to clean up the mess. If they don't come in one piece, it's still a winning situation for the everyone.
Whoops, I do believe it was Prog himself who decried the use of blatant sarcastic nastyness. Sahwee....
