Decided to audition, after many hours of indecision (and much valued input from friends). The key factor, I concluded, was fun. Projects like book-writing are not very fun, over the long haul. I am willing to gamble that performing will prove otherwise. If I'm right, this would add to my other projects in energy at least as much as it took away in time. We'll see.
So how'd you do? Not really willing to say yet. I will say I felt more confident leaving then I did coming in, after getting all jitter-sweaty on a cool night. (Thankfully, I was wearing a black shirt. Score.) The director was obviously as interested in seeing how people took direction as he was in gauging raw acting ability, as he asked me to do each reading I was handed first in the way that seemed natural to me, and then in some completely different tone of his own choosing. He also paired me up with other auditioners to go over dialogue fragments.
Hopeful, but not too much, hopefully. (But not too much.) (Huh?) I'd be pleased to get any role, I think, but at the moment there are some I'm hoping for more than others, sure...
Managed to forget about HoR Game Night even though I realized on the T that there was plenty of time to go. (I then forgot everything when I sunk into a good novel, and then talked to a friend from another gaming group who appeared in the same subway car.) So hello to the people I missed tonight. Maybe I will go to Buffy tomorrow instead, even though I could take or leave the actual Buffyness of the Buffy-like events.
Also didn't go to PerlMongers, where they probably didn't talk about Buffy and Perl.
