I am not going to this conference, which costs 18 b'jillion dollars to attend (though some lucky-duck friends get to go for "free" because they're wir(eless)ing up the joint), but I did want to point to the page because reading those peoples' bios makes me feel like a big fat slacker.
Sigh. Talk to me again in two, three years, maybe.
Wow, it's up to two grand now? Well, I suppose that's the week of registration.
What makes it expensive is that it's a serious issue of supply and demand. With the camden opera house having a maximum capacity of about 500, the maximum size of the attendance list can only be, well, near 500. As the event gets more 'popular' it gets more sought, but there are only so many tickets to go around.
Yeah, 2G is a lot for any con, but as you look at the list of speakers, you see that you're getting a different crowd than most other cons. It's quite the 'high-brow' crowd.
Since I'm one of the aforementioned bastards who's getting to go 'free' (to be the wireless whipping boy) I'll do some blogging from the site and let you know what's up. I suppose the good guideline would be to check out what kind of beer is at the opening reception ;)
I remember a con I went to in college that started with beer like "Becks" and "Heineken" and such (in the days before the micro revolution in the US) the second year down to something less and the third year I went was down to two - Bud and Coors light. I think you can tell a whole lot about the con by the beer at the opening reception. :) It's kind of like judging a diner by it's Onion Rings and chocolate shakes.
Wow, didn't I get to tangentsville. Well, look forward to reports from the con, not only on the con, but on what people are DOING at the con. Literally. Find one bastard network admin who just installed ethereal on his laptop and you could find some seriously interesting info flying in the air. :)
I'll make one final comment here noting that I've posted more info about 'ntag' in by blog. We're all getting little tags in our ears so they can move the cattle around more precicely at the con. It should be interesting, especially when my tag reads "BOFH" for job title. So, follow the journal for keimel for updates about networking leading up to the con as well as reports from the con itself.
