I finally called State Farm about that hit-n-run from last Janurary, and they've got no problem with covering it as a "collision" (rather than a two-party accident), so that's pretty good. The main reason I didn't call until now was my ignorance of having anything except liability in my auto policy, and recently learned otherwise when the time came to pay for another year of it. I asked for the mininum MA insurance package, and I guess it requires more than ME does. (Or I was bamboozled. But I guess I can't regret it now, if so.)
Was honest about my silly error, and as I hoped, they just put down Jan 1 as the date of occurrence (and maybe it was, for all I can recall) and happily fudged the details where necessary. It will be nice to have a pretty car again. Maybe I will go the whole nine yards and have its interior cleaned out, too. I've attended to it to some degree over the last year, since I've started caring more about personal-environment cleanliness, but some of the heavy-duty cruft that literally dates back to the Hermon era needs professional-grade scouring.
Hmm, the tires, too. One of them is still the used guy I got to replace a blowout from the 1998 ice storm. It would also be nice to be able to have effective brakes, or the ability to climb uphill, when driving in snow.

Date: 2003-10-30 10:51 am (UTC)I work in car insurance. To us, the fact that you used collision to pay for your accident indicates it was at fault, your fault. And that could raise your rates later. The logic is, if it was an accident (and the word collision does indicate accident) and someone ELSE'S liability didn't pay for your car, that means it was your fault.
Might be why they were so happy to code it that way. They'll make it up in higher rates to you later.
