Trailer for "Paycheck" on this page. Upcoming film based on PKD story. They almost mention him by name in the VO, referring to "the author who brought us 'Blade Runner' and 'Minority Report'". On second viewing, I realize that, in context, the whole sentence can be interpreted to mean that John Woo is that author, since we're not given anyone else's name. I'm not convinced that's unintentional. Um: grr.

I'll still see the movie, though. You bet.

I'm sure that's unintentional. Most people will know that John Woo didn't direct the other two movies, which even I know are Scott and Spielberg; and I don't think they mean for anyone to think that Woo wrote the other two movies. It's just that saying "Phil Dick" is only going to succeed in making thirteen-year-old boys snigger. If you know Dick, what they said was enough, and if you don't know Dick, saying his name in the trailer won't sell you on the movie, so why bother?

Actually, I was initially impressed at the attribution, though it was nameless, and feel it's only a matter of time before Dick's name is a household world, snickering and all, thanks to all the film adaptations bubbling from his estate nowadays.

You're no doubt correct, anwyay. I seem to be extra-jumpy about names and attributions, and possible violations thereof, these days. Hmmf...
