Random writer's observation

It occurs to me that practically nobody uses the expression "World Wide Web", or the abbreviation "WWW", anymore. The Web is "the Web" -- capitalization optional, really -- even on first reference in a written piece. Writing it out in full looks strange, to me, and outdated.

Oh, is that why everything is "www"? I always wondered.

No, I mean, good point. :-)

It is kind of interesting how the 'www' subdomain remains ubiquitous even while 'WWW' has become archaic in print. (If that even makes sense for a ten-year-old expression. Neoarchaic?)

I wish the 'www' subdomain tradition just went away, really. Some MIT tech-drones I know will give you a lecture at the drop of a hat how websites should use 'web' instead of 'www', and they are destined for a bitter existence indeed, I fear.
