"It's another weapon of mass distraction, kinda like the Mars mission." -- commie pinko harvard chemistry fellow (You'd think I'd have run across this phrase by now.) (I think this was WRT the anti-miscegenation one-man-one-woman amendment.)

(Ok, it was specifically in reference to an editorial cartoon someone put on the fridge in our office, showing Bush-as-Gollum fondling a ring with 'amendment' written on it and talking about how the precious distracts from nasty budget defecit. This is actually a pretty lame cartoon, as such things go.)

I think I first heard that phrase when it was the title of a TV movie in 1997.
