What the...

Poking through my downloads folder, I found this PDF file. It has a date-modified earlier than my ownership of this computer, so no hints there, and Googling on its filename returns no obvious clues as to its origin.

Strange. Anyone?

I should add: If it's from the RPG campaign I'm in and I'm so numb that I have no recollection of how or when I obtained it, either of the GMs may clue-by-four me at their discretion.

Well... looking this over there's definitly some patterns in it so it can't be 'too' complex of a cipher. I've converted most of the symbols into a more typable form. This is the first paragraph as I re-encoded it.

I saw some of the pages people were talking about in regards to what this is all about -- apparently this was but a small part of a much larger puzzle. Oh well -- didn't look too far because I didn't want to accidently reveal the answer too soon.

It is part of a larger puzzle, but it's solvable as a stand-alone item. (Let me know if you want to try more of the 2003 hunt... I can point you to the right starting point. Also let me know if you want hints.)

Oog... well, it took a while but I got the thing fully translated. The encoding scheme you used was similar to something I would have come up with -- that made things easier. I won't reveal the answer in case someone else reading these comments is playing around with it, but suffice to say all the sentences sounded very 'British'.

I doubt I'll work on the rest of the puzzle. This one part already consumed too much of my time :-) It was an interesting challenge though -- thanks!

It is a puzzle called "Scribbles" from the 2003 MIT Mystery hunt, written by cnoocy. It's a fun puzzle, so by all means work on it. I've given you enough information to find the original page, which contains possibly helpful flavortext and a link to the solution.
