I have the kickingest assingest idea for a D&D campaign seed. I didn't ask for this; I haven't played D&D in many years, and haven't really wanted to. But it popped into my head anyway, univited, and I'm like, yeah, OK, I admit, that's pretty cool. Can't say if it will develop further or not, but I'll be watching.

Hooray, hooray, the 19th of May, wireless speakers came today. (Via eBay.) By Advent, operating at 900MHz, and they work really well, actually. Now music and other noises from Stilton can reach me while I work or play in the living or dining room. I can be interrupted from my reading when my IM client three rooms away goes CLANGG because [livejournal.com profile] jtroutman wishes to laugh at me for thinking about expensive chairs. And rightly so.

While I'm thinking of more interesting uses for a ubiquitous sound system, they all pretty much boil down to that, at heart.

Not because you are getting Comfy Chairs from the Ottoman Empire, but because you have a place that really really nice where you can have nice things. Your environment rocks, dude.

We have 900Mhz speakers, and they don't work nearly as well, not with all the walls between them and the transmitter.

P.S.: How much did they cost you?

In my setup there's a bedroom, a wall, a kitchen, and then another wall between transmitter and receiver.

I managed to score them for $35 plus shipping. There were lots of similar auctions going on at the time, and I think Advent's latest model (not these) retails for at least twice that. I wish they were easily purchaseable without the transmitter; I'd like to get another pair to put in my bedroom.

it is just that those chairs are so damn expensive, and not really all that worth it.

Consider used, consider surplus office furniture stores, consider sam's club $129 chairs, which actually ain't all that bad (they do self-destruct after about 3 years, however).

I have chairs that I paid $350 for, chairs that I paid $79-129 for, and chairs that originally cost unnamed companies $1000 each... and I prefer the $99 leather chair from Sam's. And trust my ass -- it should know, because I spend a lot of time in it!
