I'm pretty sure I never heard or read the word "Manischewitz" before this year, when I have heard or read it 999,999 times. I think that it actually didn't exist at all before this year, and it's been retroactively added to history but they forgot to patch my memory correctly. Who's been dinking with my Matrix

haverford college: 1997. bad wine bad poetry party as hosted by myself and [livejournal.com profile] kumquatmay. by request of our third roommate, for our jewish friends, we provide 2 bottles of manischewitz. when all is said and done, all bad poetry written, all bad wine consumed, we had 2 bottles of manischewitz left. that was the first time i came across it.

Ah Manischewitz... the kosher cough syrup.
They don't just make "wine", though... try their cellophane-wrapped dehydrated vegetable soup mix! Gray flavored!

Oh, now, really, they do make very good...um, hold on, it'll come to me. Not the matzah, not the jelly, not the horseradish...um...marketing! They make very good marketing.

yeah, they manage to convince my mother -- who the rest of the year would use prepackaged food only at gunpoint, and who is perfectly capable of making tasty dinners out of meat and vegetables and potatoes, and frosting out of butter and sugar -- that she should buy their prepackaged and incredibly crappy mixes and frostings. Why? Manischewitz only knows.

(interesting factoid: "Manischewitz" is NaturallySpeaking's dictionary, but I had to say it and correct it once before it knew how to pronounce it.)

*shakes head to clear it* I misread that as "Who's been _drinking_ with my Matrix." Whoa.

It's not just you...I read it that way too. I spent the last two evenings at seders at which much Manischewitz was consumed (not by me) and I'm wondering if it's somehow affected my brain at a distance.

Hrmm...

The only thing I can think of that I actually seem to like of theirs would be the chocolate covered caramel and cashew things... (chocolate's a bit harder to screw up, imho). Like most non-jews, I can occaisionally tolerate matzah with butter instead of saltines, but... not something I like much either ;-)
