I'd like to do another Gameshelf shoot the first weekend after July 4. I would prefer Saturday the 9th, but am flexible enough to do Sunday or Friday instead, if interested people are insistent on one of those days instead. Either way I'd prefer evening... I'm thinking of blocking out 6-11pm for this.

The location would be my dining room, again; it worked out pretty well last time. (But see my mumblings under the <hr>.) The subjects would include "Shadows over Camelot", assuming I can get my hands on a copy by then, and some other game if there is time left when we're done with that.

Ideally I'd like to get between four and six or so of you hairy mutants to help with this. I need both talent -- actual game players who are willing to take direction from me (while the stuff is largely candid, I might ask things like "Could you show that move again, and explain exactly what you're doing?") -- and camera help. I theorize that one cameraperson might be enough (even though there will be two cameras), but if two people are willing to do camera, and we play two different games, the role could be swapped out midshoot.

Reply to this post or contact me directly if you're interested in helping, or have any questions. If you are interested, let me know which role (or both) you'd like to help with.

The only problem with my dining room (and any other room of my apartment) is the windows, which look just awful when the sun's up but the camera's aperture is expecting indoor lighting. Some ways around this:

* Wait until sunset to shoot. But this time of year, that means waiting until late at night.
* Use the SCAT studio. I will look into this option.
* Have someone volunteer a space they control that would work well as a controlled-lighting studio, and they don't mind being invaded by the talent and crew for the duration of the shoot.
* Someone who knows more about videography than I do tells me about something obvious I am overlooking.

I'm a tentative yes for talent. I'm in the process of selling my place and buying a new one, so some wacky thing might come up, but I doubt it would come up on a Saturday evening. And it's also tentative because, depending on what exactly is happening, I might have a lot of work to do around my house before it sells (although I hope I'll have lots of free time then). If you ping me closer to the date, I should have more of an idea.

Looks like G is going to be leaving in the mid afternoon that day, so, sure I'd be up for it. You might even be able to use our basement. Not much in the way of windows. Classic mid-70s and grad student cast-off decor. 8' ceilings.

I could play or hold a camera, but have not played that particular game before, or been trained in camera holding.

a) Nobody's played the game before, but I hope to familiarize myself with it before the shoot. You don't have to; first-time player reactions are good to capture.

b) My current thinking about the cameras has 'em both on tripods, one in-place on the table looking down (for a more-or-less overhead shot) and one on the floor, shooting across the table and recording the players themselves. Both of them run continuously, and I choose which footage to use from which camera as part of post-production.

In a perfect world there would be an off-camera director who feeds the camera operator(s) instructions throughout the shoot. For this, I think I wanna try giving the cameraperson some autonomy on what to shoot, subject to any runtime direction from me, wherever I am during this whole thing. (Of couse if the cameraperson is me, that saves a step...)

Thank you for the basement offer! I'll keep it in mind and may be in touch about it later.

We'll be out of town until the 4th, so if you don't hear back from me before then, that's why :)
