Non-spoilery reaction: Disappointed that they spoiled one of the major surprises. (There were clearly people in the (packed!) theatre who were watching FotR for the first time, judging by vocal reactions during the film. (There were some little girls who kept going "Eeeew!" every time there was a hairy Hobbit-foot closeup.)) It was great to see Eowyn, and otherwise get a taste of the whole Rohan sequence, which looks wonderful. The preview's other major focus was the battle of Helm's Deep, and... well, it will be pretty much as you'd expect. Still, glimpsing thousands of Orcs on the cliffside, beating their shields in unison, then watching Aragorn commanding ranks of archers... bah, I feel like a aicn writer. Anyway, yeah. There was a clever final shot showing Gollum sneaking up on Frodo and Sam going "We WANTS it!" and that's the last thought you're left with. Impatient fanboy Gollum. Is it Christmaseses yet?
But: No Ents? I know at least one person who'll be pissed if Jackson's shuffled them into the third movie. (They have to be in there somewhere, or Merry and Pippin are going to have a much-abridged adventure.)
In other movies:
A friend mails me theory overheard from other people that the ending of "Ghost World" (a movie I enjoyed very much) was symbolic for the main character killing herself. To this I say, "?!" It might as equally be symbolic of the main character deciding to adopt a pet Greyhound. You are all insane.
We met the landlords this evening. Everyone likes each other. The apartment's ours. All are psyched. Which is to say, M is psyched, and N and I can only say "yaaay" in a and-there-was-great-rejoicing sort of way, because we lack such fundamental ebullience. So it goes.
*sniff*
