I really like this BGG list from Alan Moon (he of "Elfenland" and "Ticket to Ride") about his memories of working at Avalon Hill long ago.
I think my favorite part, actually, is from the commenter who remembered tripping over Moon's cot in the office's basement as a very young AH fan. He and his dad had visited, expecting Willy Wonka's Game Factory and instead finding a messy house -- albeit one with games all over it. Doesn't that strike a chord.

Faboulous--I played AH games when I was a kid and now my kids are playing Axis&Allies. I got 'em A&A Pacific for Christmas, and playing it with them has reminded me how much fun I had back in the day. I had forgotten what it was like. Growing up just beyond the hind-end of nowhere, AH games were like magic from another universe.
