Followup context made it seem like it was a college professor she knew? Which I guess could be DLR; have no idea what he's up to these days. I mostly wanted to post it because of the blast of cognitive dissonance that resulted from me painting a mental image of a picky toddler after the first few words, then having to perform emergency revision.
David is hosting a morning radio show. He got most of Howard Stern's old morning show slots on the east coast, including WBCN here in Boston. You may have noticed pictures of him on the sides of buses lately to promote it.
I had forgotten that I have seen those ads. I didn't know the Howard connection until now.
I don't listen to Mr. Stern but am already annoyed that the gist of the headlines I've seen upon his return are STERN ISN'T CUSSING CONTINUOUSLY; HAS LOST HIS TOUCH.
Almost nobody in the news media can report coherently about Howard. I'm a longtime fan and almost everything I see about him in the news is deeply wrongheaded or misleading.
Before the switch to satellite radio, everybody was predicting that he'd just chant profanities, or they were speculating that no longer having the FCC and corporate censors to rail against would take the wind out of his sails. Both were incorrect.
What they don't understand is that all he wants to do is the show he was doing daily between ten and five years ago. The set of acceptable topics and vocabulary have been gradually eroded, to the point where he was no longer to discuss topics that Oprah was discussing very frankly at the same time. The main goal of the format switch is to go back to doing what they were doing earlier.
Howard has never set out to shock for the sake of shocking. Many of his imitators take that approach and they're always boring. Howard's goal is to entertain, and his taste runs toward the raunchy. If he can get laughs he doesn't care whether it's G-rated or X-.
