A regular customer of Andy England's Mac store, where I worked for a year right after college, just called me after finding my (rather out-of-date) online résumé. He was trying to track Andy down, since he quietly closed up his Bangor storefront some time ago. I didn't know where he is or what he's doing, but I did know his full name, so was able to help this fellow with that much. Then we reminisced about the Hermon school system for a little while.

I tell you, I haven't heard an honest Down East accent (besides my dad's) in a long time... it was nice to hear, especially in a phone call from out of the blue.

For the record, I think Andy shrunk back to working out of his home, but I'm not sure. If this guy didn't know, then certainly he has some customer communication issues to deal with. The fellow was a major source of business during my time there, coming in every week with more Macs that the little hellions (or their dopey teachers) had managed to b0rk.

someone very very recently mentioned this shop to me, as in he'd found that he moved the shop somewhere else and bought something.

Sadly, I don't remember who or in what part of the interweb.

I think he's open. Somehow.

Did you ever have that kooky accent?

Nope... I think you have to grow up there to have it (as with most accents, probably). I think that during my childhood in Massachusetts my parents' DE accent wasn't as strong as it is now, since at the time they hadn't lived in Maine since they were kids.

They moved back when I went to college, though, and it's come back to them since. I didn't really know this until I was imitating my Dad saying "Now you be DAAHM CAAHFUL" for someone at O'Reilly and it was such a perfect Down East accent that they laughed. I didn't intend it to be; I just thought that I was imitating how my Dad happened to talk.

I swear this laptop keeps loosing its LJ cookies and I will never remember this.

Also, "Now you be damn careful" is what my dad says every time I prepare to drive up for a visit. He will usually add "There's drunks everywhere!" no matter what time of year it is.

You'd think you'd notice the mess where your computer loses its cookies... ;-)

Do I know the person you are talking about? It almost seems so.

Interestingly enough, I had also recently heard in inquiry from a random person about where Andy England's store might be. I have no data.

Hey, I just realized -- you probably knew Ruth, when she worked at Mr. England's store, right? And Ruth worked for me 'back in the day' at CIT. And her husband, too (Chris?).

Certainly I knew Ruth and Chris, though it's been nearly nine years since I've seen either.

Andy England found!
