prog: (Volity)
[personal profile] prog
On [livejournal.com profile] rserocki's suggestion I posted about Volity to [livejournal.com profile] gamedevelopers. [livejournal.com profile] radiotelescope, meanwhile, mentioned our developer beta on his own RSS feed, which has finally been picked up by the [livejournal.com profile] zarf journal here.

They have an audience between them of several hundred LiveJournal readers, so yeah: we're starting to get serious. Ulp. We're so deep into the journey that I don't emotionally feel any particular way about this, except for basic uneasiness in the face of the unknown. I have no idea what's going to happen next, though obviously I have an idea of what I'd like to have happen.

Meanwhile, a friendly and talkative fellow who has been hanging around the devchat for the last couple of days tonight announced (with all politeness and cheer) that he was giving up on Volity because he couldn't get his head around the SVG/ECMAScript business after a day of trying. This is unfortunate, and saddening. It is also very good feedback; we know that the SVG grinding is the hardest part of making a Volity game, though I maintain that, given good examples and tools like Zarf's Testbench, you can get into the swing quickly once you learn the basic language, how it works with the DOM, and how to make interactivity happen.

Sniff, sniff, I smells me some more Wiki writing that needs to be done.

Just a week after I escaped a cold I am now dog-sick, with a fever and all. I think the fact that I didn't sleep last night (due to a conspiracy of very engaging work and the clocks changing the night before) helped bring this about. I've been napping all day today and hope to return to bed shortly. I very much want a hot drink.
