Dear scientists:

Is it strange that the summer weather feels less hot and humid to me during the day than in the evening?

I understand that there is heat inertia, but still it seems odd to me that I daily want to turn on the AC around 6 p.m. and leave it going until bedtime.

it might be that the air is supersaturated with water as the temperature drops a little, leading it to feel sticky and damp. or it might just be that you can put up with so much heat and reach your breaking point at 6.

I feel this way too. I think it's partly the relative humidity, and partly the "what the heck? It's night time -- shouldn't it be cool by now??" problem.

Yesterday I had the air conditioner in my room running at full blast all day. According to my thermometer, it was two degrees warmer at 7pm than it was at 3pm. So I don't think it's just perception.

Have you tried just running a fan rather than using AC? If you have your windows open you may be getting better air circulation during the day than in the evening, as the wind is often lower in the evening.
