Do you use GMail? I find that being able to see the subject line and the first few words of an email is usually all I need to know whether or not I can safely ignore it.
I get a lot of mail, and ignore most of it, because it's neither addressed specifically to me nor is it of immediate importance. And that's not even including spam.
