Potluck

I went to a local vegan potluck thingy for the first time today. I've been somewhat aware of this weekly(?) event for the 1.5 years I've lived here but it took the promise of a birthday surprise for someone combined with a familiar setting ([livejournal.com profile] cthulhia's house) for me to go. Brought hummus and pitas, cuz everyone like those.

Big Mama's roasted garlic hummus, mannnn. That's where it is.

Finally met a couple of people I knew only through stories about them. Everyone very friendly. Food was good. Will return, though I don't want to bring easy store-bought stuff every time... another reason to try cooking.

Three different parties are asking Erik and I to write what's essentially promo material for P&X, to be published on various oreillynet.com and oreilly.com sites. I don't think any pay is involved in any case, and Erik reports feeling too busy while I'm both that and also still rather burned out on that particular topic. OTOH, it probably would help sales, and sales good. Luckily I have an excuse to drop by ORA-Cam tomorrow -- 20 comp copies to pick up!! -- so I'll talk some stategery wif E.

Twenty copies, unless Erik miscounted in his email to me. Yeezums. Need some extra party favors, Leah?

I have reserved a shelf on one of my two limited-space bookcases for The Collected Workes Of One J. McIntosh Esq.

so start with the free copies, buddy. you can bring them down when you come to visit. I vote that you do some combined wisit with us and the looneys and make it a Wacky Trip instead of just a Boring Trip. ;p

Just to be picky: it's vegetarian/vegan. (Hooray for cheese!)
Last night there were at least 5 vegans there, but that is higher than average...

at the end, the vegans outnumbered us carnivores. but we outweighed 'em.

All the carnivores had to go home, get a full night's sleep so they could get up early and buy meat products...0

Also I find that getting an early start gives you a big energy advantage when running down antelope barehanded.
