MARATHON

I totally just ripped all three of those old Bungie game discs.

Eeeeee... (sound of alien dying by flame thrower or dying after jumping into a pool of lava to pursue you.)

Marathon has quite the cult following yet I've never played it, having only used a Mac about twice ever and then only to check my email on the web.

Is it worth figuring out how to run it under emulation?

Open Source ports are available

You can download ports of all three games, plus a ton of new levels, which will run on modern machines. Straight from Bungie:

Yeah, I wasted a few hours some weeks ago when I found those.

Cool. I never actually finished Infinity. (Or even got particularly far into it.) Maybe I'll screw around with it some later...

Which one had the room where, right after you used the save console, the entire place inundated with lava? I think that's where I gave up...

There's a part in Durandal where (IIRC) laval suddenly starts welling up and you have to race up a shaft to stay ahead of it. It's hard not to get hurt by it a little but it's not unsurvivable. And the Durandal apologizes to you.

I dunno if that's what you're remembering tho.

I got stuck in one of the games where there's a constant, fast rising and falling of water levels.

Hurray for open source! Cheers for the link, I shall be sure to play them when I should be doing something else. :D

I really wish someone would port ZPC to run on modern machines. It's based on the Marathon 2 engine, but I believe the licensor customized it somewhat. (I still have the original CD of the Mac version, but it didn't work under Classic last time I tried, which was sometime in 2001.)
