The first few times I read this, I saw "donut shop". Well, I haven't seen the show, there may be a donut shop. And the spinoff could be all about the difficulties they face in making donuts and supplying the cast with tasty tori.
The most visible ship in the Ragtag Fleet, to me, is a thin little number with an enormous rotating donut around it. It's quietly been in every wide shot of the whole fleet since the beginning. No character has ever come from it, visited it, or even mentioned it that I am aware of. I find i intriguing and wish to subscribe to its newsletter.
I'm have a vague memory that a similar ship appeared in the original series. There were a lot of funny shapes. Like so much BSG, the donut design doesn't make a lot of sense in a society with artificial gravity. It would be fun to think up justifications for it--I think the most probable is that it is a recreation ship containing a racetrack around the outer rim where various exotic beasties are ridden in competition...
