And they're not giving it back to me.

What happened: the bill payment I set up back with MBNA was depositing $100 into my CC account at the end of every month. By BoA reckoning, this is always late, because payment is due a day or two before that, and payments made between that date and the start of the next month don't count towards the next month's minimums. Therefore, I was late every single month since they started keeping track in October, despite me giving them more money than they were asking for every time.

The nice lady I talked to only smiled and shrugged at me about it.

Fuckers. Never use BoA. I wouldn't be if they hadn't bought the company I fuckin signed up with. Is there any other CC company in the USA at this point?

Wow. The more I hear about BoA, the more I wonder how much longer they're going to survive.

I have a credit card through my credit union; I do not have an account with any bank. Whether BoA has anything to do with Visa, though, I don't know.

Oh yes, I loathed them plenty before they bought MBNA. Then gave me day-one reasons to hate them as a customer by shutting down all their Maine offices as soon as the deal went through, and now they finally hit me with actual taking of actual money from me personally.

I am fairly certain they don't own Visa, at least!

Lobbying is everything

You didn't hear? They recently got a law passed in Congress that makes it illegal to quit them, or to start a competing business, or for them to go under.

...Well, no, but it sure feels like it could happen.

Banco-American? Yeah. Sound advice. I spent years mildly irritated at them but basically too lazy to switch banks. Once it escalated to more than a couple bucks a month, the laziness was trumped by the broke-ness.

As soon as I have the means, I'm going to pay off my balance, get a new card with someone else, and then pray that they don't buy that company too.

Just do a balance transfer to a new card (e.g. Citi or WaMu or Discover) right now. It shouldn't be hard to get a good short-term APR (possibly even 0%). Not only do you leave BofA faster, but you get a better interest rate for the near future. (There's usually a transfer fee, which might be as high as $150. But they'll just tack that onto the principle.)

Or, you could call BofA's credit card dept and tell them you're going to transfer your balance away, at which point they'll forward you to their "retention" department, where they will actually want to help you with your problem (or otherwise make it up to you) in order to keep your business. Up to you whether you want to deal with this hassle, though.

I found BoA an utterly loathsome company even before I had the misfortune of becoming a customer, and have even less desire now to stick with them now that they've personally robbed from me and then denied it. Thank you so much for the advice on transferral; I think I will do just this.

While we're bashing BoA

I had a checking and savings account with them when I first joined the Navy. I had the accounts for about a year, before I joined USAA. When I called them to cancel my accounts, they asked me why and I claimed it was the $5 they were charging me per month to keep a checking account, when I could get one for free from my new bank.

The lady kindly and solicitously informed me that they waived that fee if only I set up direct deposit of my paycheck to my account. Since I'd had direct deposit of my paycheck since the day I opened the account, I asked if they could then refund the money they'd essentially been stealing from me. She said they were only allowed to go back a maximum of 30 days to refund money, so in recompense for my ~$60, they refunded me $5. Then I told them that was the reason I was canceling my accounts.

I definitely feel your pain as far as being screwed over by them. They have terrible policies and absolutely awful customer service.
