Also the henchman who looked like temvald was funny

No IFF tonight; stuck with plan A to go to [livejournal.com profile] jhango's to watch Casino Royale. It's a heck of a film. I enjoyed it.

Delighted to discover that it chose to go with a gorgeous (and game-themed!) animated opening credits sequence, and I wonder if it was purposefully harkening to the animated opening of the original, very silly movie with the same title. No Herb Alpert, though.

And of course watching any movie so involved with Poker with [livejournal.com profile] rikchik in the room is a delight in itself. As computery wonks sometimes can't help cringing at every movie's blatantly incorrect computeriness, Mr. R will watch a Poker scene and mutter things like "Arrgh, he's splashing the pot" and "Bond raised last, so he should show his cards first, but I guess it's more dramatic this way..."

I loved the opening scene to Casino Royale!

I don't even realize I'm doing it. Glad it was enjoyable and not annoying.

It's infinitely more enjoyable than why is the cursor making a dot-matrix printer noise when it moves ungggggg

Glossary: splashing the pot

From http://www.poker.com/poker-glossary-s.htm:

«Splash:
Throwing your chips into the pot is called "Splashing the pot" and is considered bad etiquette in poker.»

I asked around at work - Bond indeed should have shown first, but in that case everyone needs to show at any rate (the all-in people have paid to see everyone else's hand) and most online software shows everyone's hand simultaneously in that situation.

The 1967 opening credit sequence to Casino Royale was animated by someone who found work in Who Framed Roger Rabbit and he also did work in Raggedy Ann and Andy from the '70s, which explains why I found the opening credit sequences in C.R. and R.A.&A. movies slightly similar.

i am still scarred by the raggedy ann cartoon with the blue camel who followed visions in the sky and babette the doll. i thnk didi conn from TV's Benson was the voice of ann.

that cartoon was effed up.

I found some sequences on youtube of Babette and possibly the camel, incidentally, although I did not view them. I was looking for the title part.
