I dub this episode 12 Monkeys for Algernon Five.

It's a little disorienting (ha ha) to see the show dip into several very familiar SF tropes that don't really appear elsewhere. It's kind of interesting how they're all so tightly bound to just this one character.

great name for the ep. I liked it a lot. Desmond is a character I enjoy seeing more of, and his relationship with Penny is much less annoying than the others currently on the show.

I think it's already been established that Faraday is messed up mentally, in that he has a short term memory issue (thus the problem with the cards). Is it from his experiments (and lack of head-shielding) or something else?

Oh, the cards were just a memory thing? Haha! I think I watched that scene incorrectly and I thought it was a non sequitur psychic-abilities test, and then I forgot about it coz it was dumb. I like your explanation better.
