I need to take a break from Reading the Internet... somehow, even though I kinda need to stay connected for professional reasons if nothing else. But I need to reduce or maybe just eliminate my usual LJ→BoingBoing→RSS→repeat cycle for a while. Time was it would just be a timesink, but now its helping me maintain my state of being a twitching, foaming wreck.

My baseline anger level has risen too much, too quickly, after nearly two years of calm. It's not good for me. Maybe I'll just take a day off and see what happens. (I haven't checked my LJ flist today yet. I love you all but its making me so sick.) (Yes, clearly I'm talking about Spore. Ha ha.)

My best hope is that after a little while I'll be able to swallow my anger and just live with it, unpleasant as it is, for as long as necessary. But when there's a fresh new outrage (or two) every goddamn day, boy, it can be hard to find equilibrium, you know?

It is amazing the difference it makes to stop reading the blogs/journals/news etc. Now I understand the ignorance=bliss thing.

If you can handle a second or two to load every time you open a new browser window, changing your home page to www.zombo.com is a great little moment of zen.

That is the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. Thank you for sharing the link.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
...oh wait, that's a giant lie. And yet I can't look away! At least it has an endpoint. By Thanksgiving I'll be back to sticking my head in the sand, one way or the other.

I choose Magikarp!

Splash attack now!

I generally don't get angry at internet news -- it's more a feeling of jaw-dropping disbelief.

What I do get angry about are those stupid 'cable news' programs where they have these talking head so called political experts having to blast their opinion at each other in 15 seconds or less because the show's format doesn't allow for an actual useful discussion.

There's stuff to read on the Internet?

This sounds very wise.

When I was working from home more often I actually set up another user account on my home PC with totally different bookmarks (limited exclusively to work-related stfuf) a more sensible desktop and everything. Practically speaking it was handy too cause it could automatically fire up VPN stuff etc. In the evening I could switch back to my regular desktop and goof around and it was like having two PCs.

Anyway, yeah, the signal-to-noise ratio in the news has been especially low the last few weeks, and I feel your frustration. I wonder if I am almost better off cause there's bugger all I can do about any of it, kinda how flying is relaxing cause if the aeroplane explodes on take-off, well, nothing I could've done about it anyway.
