So, OK: Vladimir Putin is possibly plotting an air strike against the U.S.? Is there any other way to interpret what she said here? (Sorry for the pre-roll ad; I just parrot what Gruber links to, man.)

I look forward to my masochistic side making me feel oddly disappointed when these destructive, demented dead-enders lose. (If they win, I'm going to go, like, shitting-into-bell-jars crazy.)

I understand why we haven't heard from her. She needs a LOT of work before the debates. And I _KNEW_ that there'd be moves to postponing the VP debate after hearing about his wanting to postpone the pres debate. KNEW IT! Wish I had posted about it.

Wow, she's... um...

stupid.

You could tell that she honestly had no idea whatsoever why the right answer to 'Explain your foreign policy experience' wasn't 'Our state has foreign neighbors that we barely interact with ever' and decided to top it off with not-quite-accusing Russia of violating international law.

WHAT

I can't decide if this is hilarious or depressing. I really can't.

This is the first clip of Palin I've heard, and, well... I mean... Oh my...

In complete fairness, I don't think she's saying that Putin is planning an air-strike on the US. She'd have to be talking about the world we actually inhabit to be saying that. But to verify this opinion I'd have to listen to the clip again, and it really hurts to watch someone embarrass themselves that much.

There's more footage over on urbaniak's journal if you need a couple more minutes of slackjawed wonderment. My favorite bit is the "trade as uh opportunity erm competitive duh SCARY THING!!" interjection at the end.

I can't stand to watch.

This is funny though:

Post Turtle

A young doctor in Texas struck up a conversation with an elderly rancher who had come in with a bad cut on his hand. They talked while the doctor was suturing the cut, and eventually the topic got around to Sarah Palin and her bid to be a heartbeat away from being President.

The old rancher said, "Well, ya know, Palin is a post turtle."

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a post turtle was.

The old rancher said, "When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle."

The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain: "You know she didn't get up there by herself, she doesn't belong up there, she doesn't know what to do while she is up there, and you just wonder what kind of an idiot put her up there to begin with."

The Republicans are making a huge gamble here, that their voters are so out of touch that they would never see this interview anyway. They are counting on people voting for them because Palin is a pretty face. Anyone voting because of *actual politics* already made their decision 4 years ago.

Part of the tragedy of this election cycle is that, four years ago, a lot of self-identifying moderates and centrists (including myself) thought McCain was pretty cool. I'm on record as having hoped that Kerry would choose him as a running mate. As recently as a couple of years ago, I was actively hoping that we'd one day see a McCain presidency with a Democractic-controlled Congress.

All this was before he revealed himself to be willing to sink to any depth to gain office. Suffice it to say that I have lost nearly all my respect for him and his party since those days.

The RNC gambled that energizing their base with Palin would add to their vote count, while McCain would gather up the independents.

But it looks like Palin is alienating the independents instead, and McCain isn't doing so well with luring them back. At this rate, McCain will be lucky to have his 30% come November -- much of the RNC base still dislikes McCain.
