Is it wrong to feel vaguely disenfranchised that Settlers is now officially known as just "Catan", according it its publishers (and, more to the point, the publishers of its sundry electronic editions)?

In their position, I would probably have done the same thing. But now I anticipate a future where I unconsciously judge myself as superior to anyone who calls the game "Catan" versus "Settlers", and I'm like, wow, I'm going to be very slightly more of a jerk as a result. Awesome, thanks.

There are probably people who feel superior because they still call it "Die Siedler".

I still call it "Settlers of Catan". Otherwise, some nerd may think I am talking about Starfarers of Catan.

Or Settlers of Zarahemla!

Or, maybe not.

"Settlers" confuses me because I immediately think of the also-German computer game series, The Settlers. Maybe that is why they changed it.

I didn't know about that game! That's interesting. I wonder if they would have called it "Settlers" if the series had gone out of print, since there is a precedent for that...

My first assumption was that "The Settlers of Catan" is too long for a video game, and that "Settlers" tested poorly with focus groups as sounding boring.
