I think technically you were correct before.

The election is indeed on the 4th. In Wisconsin, at least, absentee votes aren't considered 'voted' until the day of the election -- their votes aren't counted until then and when they are they're put in the same ballot box as those who came in to vote.

You can 'change' your absentee ballot vote by coming in and voting at the polling place before your vote gets processed. If you do that your absentee ballot won't be counted or even opened. -- Yes, I have done this.
