According to the remnants of the Republican base, if you vote, you are worthy of derision. Not surprising, given that Keep In the Vote! is an official part of the party platform this cycle.
I really hope that we're witnessing the GOP shitting the bed. I sincerely wish for the rise of a non-fucknut conservative party in the United States after this. (On second thought, as long as I'm wishing, it might be pretty good if the GOP stuck around as a filter for all the mouth-breathers to fall into instead of joining all teh latte elists what use big college words in the new party.)

Date: 2008-10-21 05:48 pm (UTC)The fucknuts will remain as Republican. Changing your label like that is so hard for fucknuts.
Without any huge swell of more sane conservatives ALL jumping from the republican ship at once, any third party of 'less fucknut-y conservatives' is bound to fail. (not that this makes me happy).
i.e. the fucknuts gotta support something. I don't count on them saying "We're not republicans anymore."
It would be a good time to see both parties self destruct and 4 or more parties rise from the ashes.
I do not count on it. I'd welcome it though!

Date: 2008-10-21 08:46 pm (UTC)why?
I mean, I could see the point, maybe 10-20 years from now if the Democrats start being actually liberal and going overboard, but we're not even close to there yet.
I find I wouldn't mind in the slightest if some or all of the conservative policies of the last 8 years (or the last 20, depending) were simply dropped in the dustbin of history and not taken up by any party at all. Is there something in particular that you wanted preserved?

Date: 2008-10-22 12:24 pm (UTC)[*] Srsly: Liberal, Social Credit, Progressive Conservative, Reform, Conservative, Bloc Quebecois, and New Democratic Party all count as "major" in that they've formed the government or opposition at the national or provincial level sometime in the past 30 years. Social Credit is now defunct. Then we have the Communist Party of Canada, the Communist Party of Canada Marxist-Leninist, the Rhinoceros Party, the Canadian Action Party, the Family Coalition Party... all of whom have run candidates in ridings where I've lived at various times. And the Green Party is somewhere in between major and minor at the moment, and growing.
