I just learned that the MIT/Harvard scientific collaboration that my group is melding into, the Broad Institute, is pronounced like "Brode". This is a little disappointing, since "The Broad Institute" was amusing to me in the same brain-dead way that (dearly departed) Cambridge landmark "Long Funeral Service" was.

(Exciting news: some groups' workspaces are gonna start moving to Kendall Square within six months. I hope we're among the first! It's likely, since an informatics group is far easier to throw around than a science group that requires an actual "wet" lab. Kendall would be such an easier commute; on nice days I could probably walk there in the time it takes me to walk-and-bus from my home to the HMS campus.)
