I just got an email from someone at Apple informing me that the MIME type used by the first SVG document I ever made is out of date. What the.

He was testing an upcoming Safari release's new SVG-rendering capabilities, but that's not the point. How the hell he found the document, that's the bigger issue. Are there so few SVG documents on the Web that that one will get pulled into a "let's see how this handles the real world" testing suite?

(I make no apologies for the catchphrase seen in the document. It was all the rage when I created it.)

I'm not sure what SVG rendering is -- I just know my computer isn't set up for it. Does this have anything to do with 'VRML'? Does anyone use that anymore?

filetype:svg ?

You can use filetype:svg in google, so I wonder if they came across it using that somehow.

Anyway, are you going to fix it? ;)

I guess. I might have to go poke the person who runs that Apache server, which I have to imagine is the source of the MIME type in question, so it is good to know.

Thank you for the Google tip. Say, did you find this post by tag-surfing? This is my guess based on your own blog's obvious SVG focus... if so, that is a first for me.

Hey,

Your post came up on either a Google BlogSearch feed or Technorati feed for "SVG" which I monitor every so often.

Jeff

Actually I think the problem is in the HTML embed statement where you put type="image/svg-xml" and it should be type="image/svg+xml", so if you are in charge of the HTML you can fix it yourself

Wow! Clicking that link *instantly* quits whatever browser I'm using - Camino, Safari, or Firefox - without so much as an "Unexpectedly Quit" dialog. Impressive!
