Why you hate olives

Zarf just shared Olives for the Perplexed with me, after I ate an olive at a party on Saturday and was confused as to why I found it complex and delicious when all the olives I have eaten heretofore have been flat and awful.

We always had a jar of them in our fridge (and my folks didn't ever serve martinis, so they were there simply for snacking on). I liked them as a kid, but as an adult, found that I didn't.
However from time to time I have encountered fancier olives, pits intact, and I have tried them. But, haven't liked those either, so now I don't even try.
