I was talking with some friends out on the street. Suddenly [livejournal.com profile] leighjen started pulling away; she was balanced on the rear bumper of an MBTA bus which had been idling near us. And she kept talking, and it became clear that she wasn't talking to us but actually just loudspeakering (sans actual loudspeaker) into the air to promote some production that she was evidently involved in. I could her using her stage-level voice even after the bus rounded a corner and disappeared from sight.

It was a drizzly day, and I was worried that she might slip and fall off. But I think she had something to hold onto so it was all right.

[livejournal.com profile] doctor_atomic links to an hilarious SNL ad that illustrates the utterly lame approach that mainstream game publishers take when they try to market universally fun things to girls specifically.

[livejournal.com profile] jadelennox discusses a recent XKCD which is, as always, spot-on. (And makes me feel bad that I am invariably too lazy to bother reading the alt text. I'd suggest that the cartoonist needs to do something else with that message, but shoving it in alt text undeniably fits so fell with the strip's general attitude and audience.)

Oh well

Thinking about tax doom again, and how unperturbed I am by it, especially compared to the last time I screwed up tax stuff - only half a year ago, really.

Generally speaking, it's easy to say "It's only money" if all the following conditions are true.
  • It's your money, alone.

  • The time between your realizing your mistake and your having to pay for it is sufficiently long to avoid surprise and panic.

  • The mistake is one that you need never make again, by way of a minor lifestyle change.
The change I must make involves creating a new bank account, and henceforth methodically shifting a third of each fresh deposit into it. It is not hard. It's even a little fun, if you're me.

This was totally edited down from 90 minutes, right? It had to be.

Edit Seriously, I'm up late thinking about what a brutally rushed hack job this looked like. I know the producers are capable of good pacing (they're the same ones responsible for BSG), and I bet that the show was filmed with good pacing in mind. But what was actually aired barely made any sense. Holy cow.
