Ouch.

I don't have all my docs yet to confirm the final figure, but it looks like I'm going to come up with around 10 grand to cover my 2007 taxes, after business-expense deductions.

This is the final ouchie from the trouble I got into last year, but it doesn't make it any less ouchy. At least I know I can survive it.

Yes, I contend that ouchie is the noun and ouchy the adjective, OK.

I had an especially fun game night at [livejournal.com profile] rikchik-n-Mary's last Tuesday, but I accidentally messed up [livejournal.com profile] magid's awesome hand at Gang of Four by not making an obvious move when I shoulda (I was enchanted watching people play Toppo in the other room and absentmindedly passed my turn), and allowing [livejournal.com profile] queue to go out a round or five earlier than he really shoulda, and sticking magid with 100,000 cards, making the game end earlier than it shoulda too. (Not to say [livejournal.com profile] queue didn't have his victory coming to him, but I kind of carved it up nice and served to him with garnish, which is not optimally fun.)

I enjoyed an especially fun brunch that [livejournal.com profile] cthulhia hosted in honor of [livejournal.com profile] zyxwvut's visit to the east coast. Lots of Rabbits/Arisia peeps in attendance and lots of good food that they broughted and I eated it. I volunteered to help with coffee, but through miscommunication I ended up leaving my own coffee equipment at home. I used Cth's equipment as if it were mine, even though it wasn't, and long story short ended up spilling scalding water all over my sous-barista [livejournal.com profile] classicaljunkie's right hand. I feel awful about this and have put myself at her beck and call while she convalesces. I would write more but she just told me to go fold laundry, so OK.

I got my first more-or-less Jmac's Arcade fan mail today from the fellow behind a video podcast called Coin-Op TV. I've so far only watched the most recent episode, which features interviews with stuntmen and T-shirt vendors at a J-pop convention. Scrolling down the page I see a lot of more game-related stuff, though. Wow, there's an interview with PONG's creator?! Cool. I shall watch it more later.

Feeling really deflated today. I'm objectively aware that there's interesting stuff for Volity on the horizon but right now all I can see is business crap that nobody told me about, until it happened to come up in conversation recently: oops, yes, I probably should have distributed tax information to people a month or two ago, eh? At least I'm on it now instead of a month from now, but I could still hear our accountant's eyes rolling at me over the phone yesterday. I am going to meet with him next week, which I predict will be me saying "Dude, whatever. You do it. I'll pay you." repeatedly. I loathe this shit.

One of the horizoney things: I'm tentatively scheduled to present about Volity at the April 10 Boston Perl Mongers meeting, at 7:15pm at MIT, E51-376. I'd love to see some familiar faces there! I haven't been to a Boston.pm meeting in years, but will probably attend next week's (Tuesday, March 13, same time & location) to get a feel for it.

Ow my head.

Woke up this morning with a terrible headache. Three CVS-brand Excederin-clones and a half-hour nap later it's just barely contained. I think I may have caught it from [livejournal.com profile] dictator555, who was also having similar pain earlier, but are there illnesses whose only symptom is a headache? I don't really get them all that often anymore, and it's not like it's from dehydration. I hope it's not from the exertion of moving my furniture around, for that would be just pathetic.

It takes me a while to get used to some things. Yesterday someone said "Why don't you call your girlfriend and tell her that [etc. etc.]" as a way of delivering some practical short-term advice, but I initially parsed it as sarcasm. That is, I heard girlfriend as "this person you like so much and whom I will now tease you about by calling them your girlfriend (or boyfriend)". It's certainly been used far more often like that to me than it has in any literal way.

Guitar Hero is lots of fun (and it's gotten me back into DDR too, I think) but I still niid a Wii. My desire's only been enflamed since actually getting to play with one. I'm hearing more often of friends finally managing to score systems, so it's only a matter of time.

I wanna work on Gameshelf but my camera's all gunked up and I'm waiting for some cleaning supplies to appear in the mail. At least I hope it's gunked up, coz otherwise I must conclude that the tumble it took a little over a year ago rendered it incapable of stably exporting video, and this would make me very sad.

I think I am rocking out too hard.

He didn't explicitly say it, but I get the feeling that [livejournal.com profile] kynn just messaged me from the middle of his root canal just so I'd note it here.
